Big Shoulders Coffee is one of our favorite local coffee spots in the city, specifically their Gold Coast location. With lots of tables and barstools and access to outlets, this cozy coffee shop always has plenty of space to post up and get some work done.
2. La Colombe Coffee Roasters

La Colombe offers a beautiful workspace as well as delicious beverages and baked goods to enjoy while you work. There are several La Colombe locations around Chicago, so even if you’re not in the Gold Coast neighborhood, there is likely one near you to check out.
3. Dollop coffee
860 N Dewitt Pl
If you’re an early riser and are looking for a morning spot to get some work done, Dollop Coffee is your place. Their Gold Coast location is open from early morning to late afternoon and has a great bar top with natural lighting to brighten up your workday. During the warmer months, they also offer great outdoor seating.
4. Foxtrot
23 Maple St
Foxtrot’s unique blend of part coffee shop/part curated convenience store has a laid-back vibe and is welcoming of workers and students posting up at tables with laptops. They offer a great menu as well as premade meals and snacks if you’re working over lunch. Or if you’ve wrapped up with work for the day, Foxtrot also offers a great happy hour deal that’s worth sticking around for.

This penthouse coworking location offers panoramic views of Chicago’s Gold Coast as well as the opportunity to work alongside like-minded business professionals. This paid membership gives you access to benefits such as private conference rooms, community events, color printing, and more.
6. Aster Hall

Aster Hall is a spacious food hall located on Michigan Avenue that’s packed with a little bit of everything for everyone. Level six, Aster Hall’s Bar & Study, is the ultimate spot for remote workers to get caught up on work, enjoy the views of Lake Michigan, grab a coffee with coworkers, or enjoy a happy hour.
7. Newberry Library

The Newberry Library, located in a stunning granite building in the Gold Coast, isn’t your typical Chicago Public Library. This historic research library is a quiet place to do some studying or get some work done. Once you sign up for a free library membership, you have access to any of the library’s reading rooms which overlook Washington Square Park.
