CHICAGO STREET FESTIVALS IN THE GOLD COAST AND SURROUNDING AREAS

Jun 01, 2022

Summer in Chicago signals the arrival of the neighborhood street fair and festival. From Ribfest to the Taste of Chicago, the city is home to an array of fan favorites that keep its residents coming back for more, each and every year. 2022 sees the return of many festivals that were on hiatus due to the pandemic, and this year is shaping up to be quite the warm welcome back.

DO DIVISION STREET FEST (WEST LOOP)

2000 W Division St (between) Damen and Leavitt)
June 3-5
$10 optional donation

This hugely popular festival highlights local retailers and artists, with two music stages programmed by local venues The Empty Bottle and Subterranean. Boutiques participate in “Do Fashion”, featuring sidewalk sales and a runway show accompanied by a DJ. Do Division can be done as a family affair as well – two whole blocks are devoted to Family Fun Fest, complete with petting zoos, bounce houses and face painting. 100% of Family Fun Fest proceeds benefit local elementary schools.

LINCOLN PARK GREEK FEST (LINCOLN PARK)

2701 N Sheffield – St. George Greek Orthodox Church
June 3-5
FREE

You’ll find gyros, moussaka and more at this beloved annual fest that promotes the “famous hospitality of Greek culture.” Imagine yourself basking seaside while you enjoy the aromatic scents and flavors of the Mediterranean. Music and dancing will be celebrated with live acts taking to the stage, and the food promises to be plentiful. Those with a sweet tooth should look out for the baklava and honey puffs.

CHICAGO BLUES FESTIVAL (LOOP)

Jay Pritzker Pavilion
June 9-12

Returning after a two-year hiatus, the Chicago blues will be celebrated once more in Millennium Park this summer. Paying homage to its roots, this fest highlights the influence that the blues have had from the genres of soul, gospel, R&B, hip hop and more. This is the largest free blues festival in the world, with four stages featuring seasoned musicians. Previous performers include B.B. King, Bonnie Raitt, Stevie Ray Vaughan, and Gary Clark, Jr; be sure to stay tuned for this year’s lineup!

OLD TOWN ART FAIR (OLD TOWN TRIANGLE)

1763 N North Park Ave
June 11-12
$12 suggested donation

An estimated 10,000 visitors will spend their weekend surrounded by the artwork of 200 artists at this beloved event in the heart of Old Town. As renowned creations decorate the block, patrons will observe collections spanning from mixed media and 2D/3D to photography, ceramics, and more. A historical self-guided garden walk is part of the festivities and features over 50 gardens in full bloom throughout the neighborhood. Many of the gardens are private or semi-private, and as such are only viewable during the Art Fair. For the little ones, Children’s Corner will be available and includes face painting and arts and crafts.
